P came down this morning to the kitchen, only to find that our plates from the night before were upside down on the kitchen floor with knives and forks underneath. How did they get there? Celia calls it a freak of nature, I'm just spooked!

you forgot to mention that you have cats as well!! It would have been extra spooky if you did not have any!
Hence calling it a freak of nature - it just happened that the knives & forks were under the plates (came up with plausible reasons i.e. they were stuck to the plate anyway, but Em says no!)
So my logical explanation is Freak of Nature - it is not totally impossible!

oops. I forget that not everyone knows we have TWO cats as well as a puppy that sleeps through anything (!)
