Gulp....

I was told this story the other night and I've kept it in my mind because I wanted to share it....!

My friend's hairdresser is a great animal lover and has always kept pets in her home, including a python. She's had this python for many years, treating it as a family pet, allowing it to roam around the house and feeding it regularly at the same time as the rest of the family. At bedtime, the python would sleep all curled up at the bottom of her bed on top of the duvet.

Recently, the python started to refuse its' food, became quite low and non responsive. The hairdresser was worried about him and said to herself she would phone the vet if his appetite did not improve. She was worried that he'd got an eating disorder, and strangely, at night time, instead of coiling up at the end of the bed, he started to lie next to her close up. She thought he must be really unwell and was very concerned about him.

As his appetite wasn't improving, she phoned the vet and explained all the symptoms that the python had been showing - the vet immediately hung up, came round to her house and put the python down.

What was actually happening over the last few days was that he'd been deliberately starving himself and sizing her up for a huge feast........

Yes! I was telling the story and people were saying before I even got to the end, 'oh yeah they are trying to eat you!' So probably more common than we thought!
