The first I heard about my gmail account being hijacked was when I received a text on Saturday night asking if I was seriously in Lagos, Nigeria and if I needed money to get home. As I was in Liverpool Deaf Centre partaking of some Deaf comedy, I thought that I should reply and let my wee mate know I was OK!
Come Sunday afternoon, there's me in my dressing gown bleary eyed (even with the extra hour in bed) entering the password for my email account into my mobile phone to absolutely no avail...cue huge *wails* and sinking of heavy heart.
I managed to come online and let gmail know that I needed to reset my password - they asked for my secondary email address, the one I used to set up the account with. As I've been using gmail now for over 4 years, that secondary email addy has completely gone out of memory! ...luckily, I was able to use an alternative, and hey presto, within the hour, I was back into my beloved account and everything seems intact. I have changed my password and my security question so that I can put up a fight against those blooming hackers(?) more directly next time!
The moment when I really thought I lost email links for photos and personal emails that I treasure was absolutely gut-wrenching. Just remind me to change my password perhaps a tad more regularly!
